Morro Bay, with its rugged rock rising out of the sea against a backdrop of rolling hills and a peaceful estuary, is not your ordinary triathlon location. It’s a constant feast for your eyes and your body, as challenging as it is beautiful.    

 

Olympic Distance
1.5K Swim | 40K Bike | 10K Run

An out and back swim on the south side of Morro Rock.

Our spectacular bike course starts and finishes on the Morro Bay Embarcadero and gives a sampling of Hwy 1, the coast and beautiful Cayucos, there will be an aid station approximately half way through the ride.

  1. Start on Embarcadero heading towards downtown
  2. Turn left on Beach St (a short but steep hill)
  3. Turn left on Main St and under HWY 1
  4. Head north on Main st bike path
  5. Turn left onto HWY 1 at Yerba Buena St
  6. Turn left onto HWY 1 at Yerba Buena St
  7. Turn Left at Sea West road
  8. Head South on HWY 1
  9. Exit at North Ocean Ave
  10. North Ocean Ave becomes South Ocean Ave
  11. Merge onto HWY 1 South
  12. Exit at the HWY 41 off ramp
  13. Cross Atascadero road and enter the bike path
  14. Merge onto Main St
  15. Turn right on Beach st (Carful of the steep downhill)
  16. Turn right on Embarcadero
  17. Turn right into the Bike/Run TA

Use extreme caution since roads are open to vehicle traffic. Ride single-file to the right at all times, except when passing (pass on the left only).

Run: (Online map)
The course is a mix of fire road, road, boardwalk and hard packed sand, it's flat and very scenic. There will be Aid Stations every 2 miles.

  1. Head north out of the transition area on the Embarcadero dirt extension
  2. Follow the course marking and cross the creek
  3. Continue north on Embarcadero
  4. Embarcadero becomes Atascadero Rd
  5. Follow course markers and skirt Morro Bay High School to the west
  6. Continue on boardwalk through Cloisters Community Park
  7. Cross Azure St and head north on Sandalwood Ave
  8. Left on Java St
  9. Right on Beachcomber St
  10. Left on Toro Ln
  11. Follow the course marking at the end of Toro Lane until you get to the turnaround point
  12. Head south on the beach towards Morro Rock
  13. Cross Embarcadero and head south to the finish

Kayak alternative: (Online Map)
If you don’t swim or you’re a kayaking fiend you can substitute the swim portion of the triathlon with a paddle. Our three mile course tours Morro Bay in clockwise direction, course and turns are marked with buoys. The paddle starts and ends at Mothers Beach.

 

 

DIVISIONS AND AWARDS:


Elite: (Elite Amateur or Pro). Pro Triathletes must enter the Elite Division.

Age Group: 
14 & under, 15-17, 18-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, , 75-79, 80-84, 85+. Note: You will be entered into the age group that reflects your age at the end of the current calendar year. 

Relay: 
Men, Women & Mixed Teams
Two person teams are acceptable - one person completes 2 legs of the event. 

Kayak:
Men, Woman and kayak type (Surf Ski, Closed Touring, and Sit-on-Top Ocean Kayak)

Awards will be given to the first, second and third place finishers in each division. Awards will be presented on the main stage Sunday afternoon.
